Hi, I am Eduardo De Bastiani!

I am a Civil Engineer, a Complex Systems MSc student and an urban-economics data-scientist.

Once an engineering class taught me − We should transform things. Create breakthroughs. Everything that make life better and wealthier is the product of people’s capacity to think. We need to explore our complex world and develop solutions that generate value at the end of the day. Be the protagonists of change.

Innovation is about connecting the dots. I’ve always been fascinated with computing, economics, urban planning and many related themes. Connecting areas of knowledge can leverage powerful solutions. For example, data science in cities enable us to discover economic opportunities in the territory.

One big dream is to make society more efficient using intelligent information. Systematizing the organization of data and indicators, the diagnostics elaboration, analysis and insights. In this way, scale solutions to optimize  decision-making, generating real-world value to empower companies and cities. The purpose of this website is to present some of those projects, to create meaningful connections and to move towards the explorer’s journey.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Most of my professional directions started during high school, while working with websites, IT and software development (2012).

I went to Civil Engineering eager to connect it with Computer Science. My data/academic interest begun during an exchange program in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015/2016), where one friend shared enthusiastically the belief that things are connected. Numbers alone are bittersweet. Engineering, economics, even society make more sense when connected. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Then we found something amazing.

Network science provides a horizon of possibilities to solve complex interconnected problems. I started in optimization of transportation networks (UIUC), employing later the same principles to explore social behaviors, game theory, decision-making.

Back to Brazil I went to a company aiming to improve cities. We employed data science and spatial analysis to observe cities as a whole, analyzing their social, economics, environmental and infrastructure aspects to leverage business decisions and optimize public policies.

My senior undergraduate thesis was a predictive models for real estate appraisals.

I am a student on the Complex Systems MSc (Universidade de São Paulo). My focus is analyzing the behavior of cities through a complexity perspective, such as urban systems (social, economics and infrastructure) and their connections, interactions and emergence. There are enlightening opportunities to explain, predict and optimize both cities and companies.

I work as a Data Analyst at QuintoAndar, the largest real estate rent platform in Brazil. My focus on data & analytics is Growth Products.

I am also leading the development of GreatSpaces, an initiative to empower entrepreneurs.

Let’s build something amazing together

I believe the world is full of good people and success in life is mostly about people we know and what we build together. A great movie also once told − Happiness only real when shared. If you want to establish a project, exchange ideas or just talk about anything else, feel free to reach me.

The world is our oyster 🙂
